Dogfights, Mud and the Truth
Smoke and dust hung in the air. Dogfights broke out as the aroma of raw meat being prepped for cooking reached the nostrils of the half-starved Manjui dogs. And though the sun was shining, rains from the previous day left the ground wet and muddy. But none of it mattered. The people sat on the muddy ground, a look of anticipation on their faces. Today a celebration was to take place; a celebration 40 years in the making.
Captivated by the Word
Memories flooded Bible translator Gordie Hunt’s mind as he stood before the crowd. Much time and effort had gone into making this day possible. More than 400 Manjui people, local ranchers, and quite a few NTM missionaries were gathered for the dedication of the Manjui New Testament.
As Gordie spoke, the Manjui men who were involved in the translation process stood by him. They were the first to receive copies of the Manjui New Testament. Most of what Gordie said was likely lost on the men as their eyes were captivated by the New Testaments they held in their hands, their fingers leafing through the pages.

” AND THEN THE LONG-AWAITED MOMENT CAME. THE MANJUI PASTORS AND LEADERS RIPPED AWAY THE PACKAGING AND BEGAN PASSING OUT THE NEW TESTAMENTS. “
The crowd waited expectantly, their attention flitting between Gordie speaking and the stacks of plastic-wrapped Manjui New Testaments. And then the long-awaited moment came. The Manjui pastors and leaders ripped away the packaging and began passing out the New Testaments.
The Journey Continues
Just weeks before, the Manjui believers had excitedly said, “We will soon have the printed Bible in our hands.” And now they do.
But the journey is not over. Keep the Manjui believers in your prayers. Pray that they would faithfully read His Word and continue to grow spiritually.
